PKR Points and Rakeback

Following on from a previous post about building a bankroll from nothing, this post continues on and explains ways to maximize your profit margin once you have seeded your bankroll with a real money win.

Firstly, once you are playing for real money you will start earning PKR Points. Most Poker sites offer some form of loyalty points system but I have often found, especially being a low stakes player I could play for ages and not even nearly earn enough points to get into a free tournament. But on PKR you get 100 Points for every $1 you spend in rake or tournament fees and you can buy into tournaments from as little as 50 points. So I think PKR offers the best chance to keep a micro Bankroll alive for longer and see it grow.

Another way to increase your profit margin is by using 'rakeback'. When you play a tournament, the buy in you pay is partly your contribution to the prize pool and partly a fee that goes to the poker site. On PKR this is always 10% (eg. $1 into prize pool $0.10 to PKR) even in the micro games. This is great news for micro players because on most other sites the fee is higher in percentage terms for the micro games. In cash games a percentage is taken from the pot on every hand, this is called the rake. To get more players PKR offer a percentage of this rake to 'Affilliates' that encourage players to sign up. These affiliates, in turn can offer some of this back to the player as an incentive to sign up through them.

However to get rakeback you will need to make a real money deposit, if you have the self discipline, you do not have to use this deposit to buy into tournaments but just use it to get the rakeback deal.
